Testing and Analysis
Soil Testing & Analysis

Learning as much as you can about your soil will help you decide what needs to be done to make it ideal for the plants you want to grow. If you can learn about your soil’s texture, composition, drainage, acidity, and mineral density, you will avoid, upfront, the disappointing results that can occur when your soil is unsuitable for your dream garden and landscape. We collect the sample, package it, mail it to the lab and then we read the report and write a detailed analysis with exact directions on what to apply and when.
Starch Test of a Silver Maple Tree
       Starch Testing & Analysis

We test trees for health. All green plants produce sugar (energy)in their leaves during photosynthesis. The sugar is then either used in the leaves as an energy source for growth or production of other essential materials, or it is transported via the phloem (inner bark) to other parts of the tree.

The sugar that is not used immediately is linked together in long chains to create starch. Starch is the product the tree uses to store much of its energy reserves. By staining wood for starch, the level of the tree’s energy reserves can be estimated. This information is beneficial when making a diagnosis of the tree’s condition.

Foliage Testing & Analysis

Trees and plants don't talk and tell us exactly what they need to be fertilized with. Many cases soil test may tell us and in some cases they won't. A very powerful tool in determining plant health is knowing the exact mineral content in plant tissue. We collect living tissue and send it to a lab and we can literally pinpoint the exact needs of the plant.
Dendrochronology & Wood Identification

Dendrochronology (or tree-ring dating) is the scientific method of dating tree rings (also called growth rings) to the exact year they were formed. We can answer questions like how old a tree is or when a tree was damaged and when it likely became decayed.

We also provide services for the identification of wood genus and in some cases the species.

Reports
All tests provided above receive a detailed written report, which includes analysis of what to do and how to apply as well as details of what species of plants will work in your site based upon the test results. If we can help you please call our office.
